You may or may not know that there are a large number of roles in the Marketing industry. I believe that anyone can fit into Marketing depending on their interests. Whether you’re driven by data or more of a wordsmith, you can find a role to suit you. Here is a quick breakdown of the different Marketing positions and what each one entails:

Copywriter:
Of course I chose to start with this. A Copywriter is responsible for creating copy (i.e the use of words to persuade readers to do something) for social media, ads and website landing pages. Sometimes this is used interchangeably with “Content Writer”. However a Content Writer typically writes longer form content (such as blogs).
Content Marketers:
A Content Marketer is responsible for creating content meant to attract customers. This type of content can take any form such as videos or graphics. A Content Marketer can create the content themselves or the content can be created by someone else and just repurposed by the Content Marketer.
Graphic Designer:
A Graphic Designer creates graphics for the business however their job covers much more than just design. A Graphic Designer could design flyers, ads, email assets and anything else that requires artwork. I’ve worked with Graphic Designers who have designed stickers, floor decals and even a selfie frame.
Social Media Manager:
Social Media Managers manage social platforms. They are responsible for creating social media posts, monitoring engagement and identifying trends. They may also handle comments and queries posted by customers on social media platforms however this is a role typically handled by a Social Media Community Manager.
SEO Consultant/SEO Manager:
An SEO Consultant/Manager is responsible for helping websites rank higher on Google. This is done by performing SEO audits, keyword research and implementing technical SEO fixes.
Email Marketers:
Email Marketers use email platforms to distribute content, drive sales and develop relationships with potential customers. This involves a mix of content and strategy as well as lots of numbers.
Brand Managers:
Brand Managers are responsible for overseeing the brand strategy of a company. They ensure brand consistency and work on brand awareness by partnering with other teams across the company. Brand Managers have an excellent overview of everything relating to the brand and is a great way to expose yourself to several other Marketing fields at once.
Growth Marketers:
Growth Marketers are responsible for conducting experiments to find scalable strategies for growth and improve customer loyalty. They also identify untapped opportunities for growth and develop strategies for capturing these opportunities
As companies grow and get more specialized, more roles open up but this is a general overview of what you can expect in a Marketing team.
